Intergenerational Cultural Dissonance,Parent–Child Conflict and Bonding,and Youth Problem Behaviors among Vietnamese and Cambodian Immigrant Families

Intergenerational cultural dissonance (ICD)—a clash between parents and children over cultural values—is a frequent issue for Asian American youth. Using longitudinal data from the Cross Cultural Families Project, this study examines the mechanisms by which ICD contributes to problem behaviors, including whether ICD predicts parent–child conflict, whether parent–child conflict then has a direct effect on youth problem behavior, and whether positive bonding with parents mediates the effects of such conflict on youth problem behaviors among Vietnamese (n = 164) and Cambodian (n = 163) families with adolescents [average age = 15.2 years (SD = 1.05)]. The results from the path analyses show that, in both groups, ICD indirectly predicts problem behaviors by increasing parent–child conflict, which in turn weakens positive parent–child bonding. Interventions that target youths’ perception of intergenerational cultural gaps, help them manage conflict, and help strengthen bonds with parents may prevent problem behaviors among Cambodian and Vietnamese families. This study contributes to inform how to effectively prevent problems and difficulties among these families.

论中华指纹文化的起源、影响及其非物质文化遗产特质

中华指纹文化是中华民族先人通过对指纹进行长期观察、运用所形成的知识体系和社会实践,从某种程度上讲,其与四大发明具有同等意义。数千年来,指纹作为中国人的身份象征、证明凭据和诚信标志,大量应用于社会管理与民间交往等众多领域,成为中华民族认同的文化标识。中华指纹文化是中华民族智慧与创造力完美结合的产物,是中国非物质文化遗产的优秀代表。     

区分：等级之差抑或类型之别——兼谈“尊敬”的形态

在《区分：判断力的社会批判》中,布尔迪厄区分出了三个等级层次的文化趣味（生活风格）：合法趣味、“中产阶级”趣味和民众趣味;进而,通过将“趣味”（生活风格）与“习性”关联,凸显了“文化趣味”在标识和维护身份等级及其社会再生产中的重要性,而一些美国学者在布尔迪厄著作的激发下所做的研究则质疑了这种重要性。在看待不同的文化趣味、生活风格时,欧洲人更倾向于从等级高低的角度来评判,而美国佬则相对更强调类型上差异;这种审视视角的差异,根源于欧美不同的历史所形成的社会结构性差异。看待文化趣味、生活风格的不同视角,关联着社会尊敬的不同形态：越是倾向于从等级高低的角度来审视,则越会形成“不平等社会”式的尊敬形态,而越是倾向于从多样性、类型化的角度来看待,则越有可能形成“平等主义”的尊敬形态。

绣球是壮族传统的民族手工艺品.近年来,广西靖西县旧州镇依托传统的壮族绣球工艺,积极发展绣球产业.文章试图从旧州绣球产业的发展来思考非物质文化遗产与文化资本之关联,并探讨非物质文化遗产资本转换及运作的意义,从而希望能为非物质文化遗产保护实践的可持续发展服务.     

National past and populism: the re-elaboration of fascism and its impact on right-wing populism in Western Europe

Abstract

The electoral performance of right-wing populism depends on the type of re-elaboration of countries’ national past and their collective memories. Complementing socio-economic and political-institutional factors, the article analyses cultural opportunity structures. Given the link between fascist and populist visions of power, it shows that different collective memories of the fascist past and World War II open up or close down the space for right-wing populist parties. Theoretically, the typology includes four types of re-elaboration: culpabilisation, victimisation, heroisation and cancellation. Results of a comparative analysis of eight West European countries based on a novel measurement method point to (1) culpabilisation and heroisation as types of re-elaboration limiting right-wing populist parties’ electoral performance, (2) cancellation as a type having an undetermined effect, and (3) victimisation as a type triggering the success of right-wing populist parties.     

The logic of multiculturalism and Korean democracy

In this article, I attempt to construct a normative framework of Korean multiculturalism in the Confucian public-societal context of Korean democracy by focusing on the political implications of the claim to cultural rights (so-called ‘logic’ of multiculturalism) and cultural pluralism that it is likely to entail for Korean democracy. After examining the logic of multiculturalism that often puts multiculturalism in tension with liberal democracy, I turn to Will Kymlicka's account of immigrant multiculturalism that resolves the potential tension between multiculturalism and liberal democracy in a liberal way. Then, I construct a normative framework of Korean multiculturalism in a way that a decent multicultural society can be established on the same public-cultural ground on which Korean democracy has matured in the past two decades.

20世纪90年代到本世纪初,"文化全球化"成为全球化研究的前沿问题。关于"文化全球化"的界定虽然还众说纷纭,但是,对"文化全球化"的研究从以下两个方面来说是有可能性和有效性的:(1)"文化全球化"概念中"文化"的界定比较明确;(2)从文化的不同角度、不同层次对全球化的探讨逐渐形成了一个问题域,构建了一个广阔的理论空间。
