A general strain approach comparing the effects of victimization,social support,and perceived self-efficacy on LGBQ and heterosexual youth suicidality

LGBQ youth are more likely to consider, plan, and/or attempt suicide compared to their heterosexual peers. Evidence from the general population suggests that risky behaviors, like suicide, may be mediated by protective factors, including social support and self-efficacy. Using Agnew’s general strain theory and data from a statewide probability sample, the results of this study suggest that victimization, as a source of strain, is a risk factor for both LGBQ and heterosexual youth suicidality. While social support and self-efficacy reduce the risk of suicidality among heterosexual youth, they are not significant protective factors for LGBQ youth. Theoretical and policy implications are discussed.     

Why this Charity Begins Abroad: Comparing Nigeria’s Foreign Peacekeeping Undertakings and Domestic Counter-insurgency Operations

The Nigerian state has had a turbulent history and even more worrisome present. Its sovereignty has been flagrantly challenged and its territorial integrity undermined by domestic non-state actors. The contemporary security challenges and indeed the incapacity of the security apparatuses to contain them contrast sharply with their past records, especially in peace enforcement abroad. Thus, this paper seeks to account for the apparent gulf between past strengths and current weaknesses of the Nigerian security machinery. It explores the country’s involvement in external peace support operations and domestic counter-insurgency efforts. The author identifies the politicisation of and corruption within the military establishment as plausible explanations for the disconnect between the recorded past (victories) and the inadequacies of today. From the standpoint of this author, to address these issues there is the need for a holistic security sector reform in Nigeria.

近年来吉林省房地产市场得到了长足的发展,但是吉林省的房地产市场仍然处于一个较为初级的发展阶段,房屋价格远远低于全国平均水平,而且面临着较为严重的供给约束和有效需求不足问题。虽然以银行贷款为主的金融支持推动了吉林省房地产市场的发展,但是吉林省房地产市场的金融支持力度仍低于全国平均水平。因此,应当在现有金融支持规模的基础上,适当加大支持力度,以便更好地促进吉林省房地产市场的发展。     

浅谈我国城市流动儿童的教育支持问题

对于我国城市流动儿童这部分边缘群体,社会、政府、学校应从多个方面给予特定的关怀和教育支持。督促各地政府各部门严格执行国家制定的相关政策;改革户籍制度;学籍实现全国统一管理;试验创新教育经费的发放方式—教育券;审慎对待民办民工子弟学校。     

Surviving (thriving) in academia: feminist support networks and women ECRs

In this paper, we reflect upon our experiences and those of our peers as doctoral students and early career researchers in an Australian Political Science department. We seek to explain and understand the diverse ways that participating in an unofficial Feminist Reading Group in our department affected our experiences. We contend that informal peer support networks like reading groups do more than is conventionally assumed, and may provide important avenues for sustaining feminist research in times of austerity, as well as supporting and enabling women and emerging feminist scholars in academia. Participating in the group created a community of belonging and resistance, providing women with personal validation, information and material support, as well as intellectual and political resources to understand and resist our position within the often hostile spaces of the University. While these experiences are specific to our context, time and location, they signal that peer networks may offer critical political resources for responding to the ways that women's bodies and concerns are marginalised in increasingly competitive and corporatised university environments.     

Chapter 11: Therapeutic Foster Parent:

Training can help foster parents manage reactions to the foster child, avoid stress and burnout, and cope with the difficult times so that placement is sustained. Training is necessary so foster parents will not take the child's aggressive behavior personally, will avoid becoming embroiled in power struggles, and will be less likely to become hurt or embarrassed by the child's behavior. Training will involve individual consultation by the social worker as well as participation in a foster parent group. Staff will assistn foster parents to develop behavioral management and communication skills as well as their own coping and self-control skills. Foster parents are given permission to take care of their own needs, are assisted in developing stress management skills, learn how to increase their own self-esteem, and learn to use cognitive approaches to handle their own emotions. Foster parents develop an understanding that they cannot change the child's behavior but can only change the way which they respond to the child, which may provide the child opportunities to change his or her own behavior.

乌拉圭回合《农业协议》国内支持条款缺陷问题研究

乌拉圭回合《农业协议》实现了农产品到多边贸易体制的回归,但协议并不是对国际农产品贸易的永久性安排,各成员仍有义务通过后续谈判,不断提高国际市场农产品贸易自由化水平直至完全实现自由化。因此,研究《农业协议》国内支持条款的局限性与执行中存在的问题,分析新一轮农产品多边谈判中应修正的问题,对于我国实施国内支持条款和参加新一轮农业多边谈判,具有理论和实践意义。     

新时期党的私营经济理论探析

改革开放30年,党的私营经济理论实现了三次重大飞跃:从"补充论"、"组成部分论"到"平等论"。这三次重大飞跃是建立在中国特色社会主义理论体系不断突破和创新基础上的:社会主义初级阶段论、社会主义市场经济论到科学发展观。深入研究新时期党的私营经济理论及其从中国特色社会主义理论体系中所获得的理论支持,无论在理论上还是实践上都有着重大意义。     

男性罪犯人格、社会支持和人身危险性关系的研究

采用问卷法,对在押的198名男性犯人的人格、社会支持与人身危险}生的关系进行研究,结果发现：（1）客观支持、主观支持、对支持的利用度和人身危险性之间存在着显著的相互关联;（2）财产型罪犯的人身危险性要显著高于暴力型、性犯罪和其他类型的罪犯;（3）有前科的罪犯的人身危险性显著高于无前科的罪犯,有前科的罪犯在客观支持和对支持的利用度上的得分均显著低于无前科的罪犯;（4）罪犯的主观支持、对支持的利用度、神经质和精神质对不同犯罪类型的罪犯的人身危险性有不同预测力。
