To assess the quality of manner of death (MOD) certification among medical examiners/coroners (ME/Cs) in Taiwan, death certificates issued in 2002 for which the final MOD was suicide or undetermined were extracted for analysis. Indicators of the quality of MOD certification included (1) MOD not given by the ME/Cs; (2) MOD assigned by the ME/Cs was changed by the coder; (3) ratio between undetermined and suicide deaths (U/S ratio). There were 450 death certificates for which the ME/Cs did not assign the MOD in the original certificate. Three fifths (285/450) of them were issued by 4 ME/Cs. The same 4 ME/Cs also had extremely high U/S ratios (1.25-1.84) compared with the average (0.31). The overall quality of MOD certification among ME/Cs in Taiwan was fair; only a small number of ME/Cs had poor quality in MOD certification. The high U/S ratio among the 4 ME/Cs would certainly affect the suicide mortality rates of the counties the 4 ME/Cs were in charge of. Actions should be taken to improve the certification quality of these 4 ME/Cs. 相似文献

This paper focuses on how the Chinese are represented in the international business literature. Chinese cultures are packaged
to make knowledge about the Middle Kingdom more accessible to a general audience. The ways in which these packaged cultures
are framed and constructed will be questioned here. Drawing inspiration from Foucault, this article identifies four traits
of a packaged culture – it mediates, it asserts the uniqueness of the culture, it selectively packages the culture and it
claims that cultural differences matter in business. These traits will form the basis for comparing and examining three methods
of packaging a culture, namely the general-macroscopic, ethnographic present and critical emergence approaches. This paper
concludes that researchers should reflect on the power they yield when they represent another culture, and that the general
public may privilege theories that are accessible rather than sound.

External state pressure is understood to have played a causally significant role in democratic breakthrough in Taiwan and South Korea during the 1980s. This article problematizes the international dimensions of democratization in Taiwan and South Korea by first providing a revisionist account of external agency which involved complex networks of transnational nonstate and substate actors. These included human rights activists, Christian churches and related ecumenical organizations, members of the Taiwanese and Korean diaspora communities in the US, academics and students, foreign journalists, and members of the US Congress. In forming a transnational “protection regime” during the 1970s and 1980s to protect the political opposition from repressive governments, they contributed to the development of effective democratic movements. The case studies provide us with a more comprehensive view of the international dimensions of democratization, speaking to both the country specific and general theoretical literatures on democratization at the same time. 相似文献

While cities are considered to be inherently unsustainable, these urban human settlements will be where a majority of the
population will be living in the next two to three decades. Among the ten largest cities in the world in terms of population
sizes, three are in Southeast Asia alone and more than one in two people will be living in cities in 2025. These primate cities—Metro-Manila
in the Philippines, Jakarta in Indonesia and Bangkok in Thailand—are seeing not only rapid rates of in-migration but also
rapid expansion and urban sprawl. Such rapid rates of change pose growing challenges to Southeast Asian cities including smaller
capital cities like Kuala Lumpur, Ho Chi Minh City and Singapore. The strongest challenge concern infrastructural provision
and particularly that provided for urban transport and mobility. Urban traffic congestion is an issue that is common to most
Southeast Asian cities including Singapore which has introduced relatively draconian policy measures to both contain the level
of car ownership and the use of the car. A comparison with several European cities highlight where Southeast Asian cities
can review their own urban transport policies. This paper focuses on the lessons that can be learnt from a comparative study
of the infrastructural provision and public policies that are in place in Southeast Asian and European cities. 相似文献

Using the concepts of auto-communication and micro-Orientalism, this article argues that nation branding at World Expos produces and propagates notions of difference and Otherness. We examine how Denmark presents itself in China, and how the message inevitably tells how the Danish authorities view the Chinese. Using the Danish ‘Welfairytales’ pavilion at the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai, we show how the national self is performed in two versions. One attempts to communicate ‘the good Danish life’ to the Danes themselves, while the other claims Occidental superiority. The case shows how the Danish exhibition is performed and regulated as sustainable and authentic and how in spite of its seemingly dialogical and interactive layout, a number of auto-communicative and micro-Orientalist practices are enacted. This study is based on field participation, observations and interviews. Public sources of information are also used. 相似文献
