The forensic medical characteristics of the injuries to the spleen in blunt trauma of the abdomen

Analysis of 220 sectional cases with blunt spleen trauma is given in this article. Trauma circumstances, morphologic features of spleen injuries depending on the kind of blunt trauma, mechanism of their formation were studied.     

Blood reinfusion as an indicator of time-limit in the development of splenic injuries

Literature data are analysed on the causes of differencies often encountered in practice between the time of injury by histological examination and time established in the course of legal investigation. An indirect marker--blood reinfusion--can limit the time of splenic damage creation.     

The mechanisms of the formation of kidney damages from action by blunt objects]

Analyzes 206 cases with renal injuries inflicted with blunt objects. Describes the type of renal injury in relation to the type of the trauma and direction of the strike with the blunt object with a limited surface of co-strike. Presents mechanisms of the injury formation.     

Problem solving and youth violence: an evaluation of the Boston Gun Project

The Boston Gun Project is a problem-solving policing initiativeaimed at reducing homicide victimization among young peoplein the city of Boston. It represented an innovative partnershipbetween researchers and practitioners to assess the city's youthhomicide problem and implement an intervention intended to havepowerful impacts in the near term. In early 1996, a workinggroup representing a variety of law enforcement and social serviceagencies implemented an intervention that strategically respondedto gang violence, focused enforcement efforts on gun trafficking,and emphasized communication of the strategy to generate deterrence.The intervention is associated with a 60% decline in youth homicidevictimization (i.e., two fewer victims per month). There aresmaller declines in other measures of violence. The declinein youth homicide is sharp and occurs coincident with the introductionof the intervention. Competing hypotheses appear unable to accountfor the decline.
