Stories are part of everyday life and constitute means for actorsto express and negotiate experience. For researchers, they providea site to examine the meanings people, individually or collectively, ascribe to lived experience. Narratives are not transparentrenditions of truth but reflect a dynamic interplaybetween life, experience and story. Placed in their wider socio-politicaland cultural contexts, stories can provide insights into howforced migrants seek to make sense of displacement and violence,re-establish identity in ruptured life courses and communities,or bear witness to violence and repression. The researcher mustpay particular attention to his/her own role in the productionof narrative data and the representation of lived experienceas text. 相似文献

The adjustment problems associated with sexual abuse, physical abuse, psychological maltreatment, neglect, and witnessing family violence during childhood were examined in three studies. Study 1 demonstrated significant overlap between maltreatment types in parent reports (N = 50) of maltreatment experiences of their child aged 5–12 years. Parental sexual punitiveness, traditionality, family adaptability and family cohesion significantly predicted scores on 4 maltreatment scales and children's externalizing behavior problems. Level of maltreatment predicted internalizing, externalizing, and sexual behavior problems. In Study 2, significant overlap was found between adults' retrospective reports (N = 138) of all 5 types of maltreating behaviors. Parental sexual punitiveness, traditionality, family adaptability, and family cohesion during childhood predicted the level of maltreatment and current psychopathology. Although child maltreatment scores predicted psychopathology, childhood family variables were better predictors of adjustment. Study 3 demonstrated that child maltreatment scores predicted positive aspects of adult adaptive functioning (N = 95). 相似文献

This study was designed to examine the factors predicting a range of body change strategies among adolescent males over an 8-month time period. This is the first published longitudinal study of body change strategies to increase weight and muscles among males. The 5 body change strategies in the present study were eating and exercise to lose weight, increase weight, increase muscles, bingeing, and use of food supplements. The extent to which Body Mass Index (BMI) and these body change strategies predicted each other over an 8-month period was evaluated. The role of pressure from parents and peers to lose weight, increase weight, or increase muscles was also evaluated. After controlling for the Time 1 level of each variable, only bingeing, and use of food supplements were predicted by other Time 1 body change variables. Bingeing at Time 1, and a combination of all of the other variables predicted bingeing at Time 2; use of food supplements and bingeing at Time 1 predicted the use of food supplements at Time 2. Perceived pressure from parents and peers to lose weight at Time 1 predicted strategies to lose weight at Time 2; perceived pressure from parents and peers to increase weight at Time 1 predicted strategies to increase weight at Time 2; and perceived pressure to lose weight, increase weight, and increase muscles at Time 1 predicted the use of food supplements at Time 2. These results indicate that extreme body change strategies are predicted by the adoption of more normative body change strategies at an earlier point in time, and that a range of body change strategies among adolescent males are affected by perceived pressures from parents and peers. 相似文献

Nearly 2 million people are incarcerated in federal, state and local correctional facilities in this country. Individuals
with serious mental disorders increasingly fill these ranks. The roles psychologists and other mental health professionals
adopt while working with this population can become an issue of silent consternation. As a point of departure, some (e.g.,
Levinson, 1985) have suggested that psychologists rightly function as institutional mediators of conflict, a virtual Marcus
Welby of the collective correctional “psyche”. In practice, it is not uncommon for some clinicians to retreat from this approach
and do little, or conversely, march in one hundred directions at once. The authors suggest that as psychology service delivery
has matured in the past few decades this latter, well-intentioned but unrealistic position should be reconsidered. We suggest
that greater depth and definition in the area of forensic psychology, coupled with recently developed ethical and professional
standards of care, may serve to guide the clinician when providing services “behind bars”.

With government funding for most Australian universities below 60% and falling a major strategic emphasis for universities has been on securing other sources of operating revenue, including commercial opportunities and partnerships. The implication of increasing commercial activities such as non-award and tailored professional programmes, contract research and consultancies within a university environment raises a number of issues in relation to copyright. This paper will discuss whether the educational provisions (including section 200AB introduced in the 2006 amendments) or the fair dealing provisions within the Copyright Act could be applied if copyright material is reproduced as part of a commercial activity undertaken by a university. 相似文献

The present study was designed to assess body mass index (BMI), self-esteem, parent and peer relations, negative affect, and
perfectionism, as predictors of dieting, food preoccupation, and muscle preoccupation, in 326 preadolescent children (150
girls and 176 boys) aged between 8 and 10 years. Preadolescents were tested twice over a 10-month period. BMI was found to
be the main predictor of girls' and boys' dieting, both cross-sectionally and longitudinally. Perfectionism was an important
predictor of boys' dieting and muscle preoccupation, while self-esteem, peer relations and negative affect predicted girls'
muscle preoccupation. The findings are discussed in relation to past research with both preadolescents and adolescents.
