Among the Dai communities, a pre-dawn morning market or ＂ganbai＂ （bazaar） is a longstanding tradition. Dai people in hot subtropical areas such as Xishuangbanna and Dehong in Yunnan Province, and in Burma, collect fresh vegetables from the fields and sell them before the sun is up, leaving themselves free to go back to work in the fields afterward and then, at noon, to rest in a cool spot.

On April 10 this year,a final explosion heralded the completion of a truly challenging construction project.It took three years’work to fi nish the 6680-meter tunnel that brings Dulongjiang Highway through Gaoligong Mountain.On that same April 10 also in Nujiang Prefecture,Pu Yanfang,a 5-year-old Drung girl from Dulongjiang Town,was severely burned while warming herself at home.     

My First Trip in Tibet

Tibet always remains a holy mirror to me. The way of praying varies from person to person, and so does the understanding of beautiful Tibet, but whatever way or whatever understanding it is, holiness is the basic tune for eye and soul-Tibet the holy paradise in our innermost. The road to Tibet not only attests to both Han and Tibetan cultures but also means hardship. Its profound cultural deposits as well as amazing landscape are always fascinating. With my friends, I drove from Xiangxi, Hunan Province, Sichuan-Tibet Highway for along the northern line of nothing but a dream.     

My Engagement with the Prairie：Attending an Ewenki Wedding

What luck! In July 2013 on the Inner Mongolia prairie, I attended an Ewenki wedding with its traditional bride-escorting caravan. The last time I saw this type of ceremony was decades ago. It had been raining for several days but the sky cleared on July 25 for a wedding day in bright sunshine. The azure sky, the green prairie, the white yurt, the throng in their decorative finery made a vivid atmosphere for a happy ceremony.
