Russian Voting and the Initial Economic Shock of Hyperinflation

This paper addresses the issue of economicvoting in transitional democracies using data from the Russianfederal elections. It argues that the shock of inflation thatfollowed the fundamental economic reform has a lastinginfluence on voters. Specifically, it shows that in Russia,where inflationary policy led to hyperinflation and thewidespread loss of personal savings, the magnitude of savingslost at that time continues to explain a significant portionof the variation in the regional support for the Communistparty in parliamentary and presidential elections.     

Forensic-medical assessment of diaphysis fractures in childhood

The authors established that special structure of bones in childhood have a significant influence on the fractures of long tubular bones. The formation of unusual fractures shows it. Under condition of low speed of bending in the area of fracture many microfissures are formed, which leads to structural failure of intraosseous microcirculation and osteocytes.     

Morphology of fractures of long tubular bones in children upon trauma due to solid blunt objects

Morphologic features of diaphyseal fractures of lond tubular bones in different age groups in childhood were studied experimentally on biodummy using direct stereomicroscopy (MBC-9). Blow effect was induced by solid blunt objects at the middle diaphyseal parts at a right angle. A series of specific morphologic features which help to diagnose the specific bone tissue lesions in different fracture zones as well as in different age periods was obtained. Experimental data were confirmed by expert observations which proves the possibility of using these specific morphologic features of diaphyseal fractures of long tubular bones in childhood for medicolegal purposes.     

Knowledge-Sharing Subsidiaries in Central and Eastern Europe

This paper investigates reverse knowledge transfer of foreign multinational subsidiaries in Central and Eastern Europe (Czech Republic, Poland and Hungary) in the light of the current political and economic transformations of these former communist countries. The study examines whether foreign subsidiaries in the region share their knowledge base with their sister-subsidiaries and parent company, and the role of various factors in this knowledge sharing. These factors include subsidiary initiative, subsidiary autonomy, local dynamism and corporate embeddedness. A proprietary dataset is used for statistical analysis.
