A passive approach for effective detection and localization of region-level video forgery with spatio-temporal coherence analysis

In this paper, we present a passive approach for effective detection and localization of region-level forgery from video sequences possibly with camera motion. As most digital image/video capture devices do not have modules for embedding watermark or signature, passive forgery detection which aims to detect the traces of tampering without embedded information has become the major focus of recent research. However, most of current passive approaches either work only for frame-level detection and cannot localize region-level forgery, or suffer from high false detection rates for localization of tampered regions. In this paper, we investigate two common region-level inpainting methods for object removal, temporal copy-and-paste and exemplar-based texture synthesis, and propose a new approach based on spatio-temporal coherence analysis for detection and localization of tampered regions. Our approach can handle camera motion and multiple object removal. Experiments show that our approach outperforms previous approaches, and can effectively detect and localize regions tampered by temporal copy-and-paste and texture synthesis.     

In search of enduring information effects: Evidence from a ten-week panel experiment

The extent to which the electorate uses issue information to update their candidate evaluations over the course of political campaigns has often raised questions about citizen competence. Using a ten-week panel experiment designed to capture the low-information context of most congressional races this study contributes to our understanding of when and by what processes issue information produces enduring effects. Findings reveal that when voters need to assess an ideologically moderate candidate, they rely less on partisan cues but instead of storing issue information in long-term memory – either via a memory-based or on-line process – considerations in short-term memory remained one of the most powerful predictors of candidate evaluation, particularly when new issue information deviated from partisan norms.

系列案件中犯罪分子的反侦查意识和行为是普遍存在的,侦查与反侦查之间的较量更加激烈。"时空空白点"是与作案时空相对应而存在的,其存在具有必然性、相对性、稳定性和可利用性,特别是在系列案件中,"时空空白点"在很大程度上能够反映出犯罪分子所具备的特征,对于划定侦查范围、查找犯罪嫌疑人有着很大的作用。通过对系列案件中的"时空空白点"进行深入分析和利用,以此对犯罪嫌疑人的犯罪特征进行刻画,提高"时空空白点"在侦查破案中应用,从而拓展侦查破案的途径。     

A database right in search results? – An intellectual property right reconsidered in respect of computer generated databases

With much information available from open sources on the internet, computer generated databases have become commonplace. The question whether computer generated databases can be protected under the sui generis database right has hitherto received little attention. This article investigates this question and finds that the substantiality of investment, the definition of the rights holder and the interpretation of exclusive rights raise fundamental issues.     

Measuring the Intensity of Intranational Political Events Data: Two Interval-Like Scales

King, Keohane, and Verba (1994, pp. 27-28) argue that we should "maximize the validity of our measurement," "ensure that data-collection methods are reliable," and make all data and analysis replicable. In an effort to improve the measurement of the events data collected by the Intranational Political Interactions (IPI) project, this extension of the project produces two new valid and reliable interval-like scales. Following Azar (1982), Goldstein (1992), and Moore and Lindstrom (1996), I produce interval-like scales of cooperative and hostile political actions based on a group of experts' judgements. The collective scaling procedure produces data suitable for use in OLS regression models as well as a standardized interval-like scale that more accurately represents the true scores of event types. The paper discusses the procedures taken to derive the new measures, proceeds to argue why the new measures are improvements over existing measures, and reports the findings of statistical analytic comparisons. The statistical comparisons demonstrate that the new scales make a difference in various statistical models using different temporal units of aggregation.
