Tracing the Sources of Cai Yuanpe''''s Philosophical View of Identity

CAI Yuanpei's philosophical view on the origin of the world is formed by, on the one hand, inheriting the traditional classical Chinese philosophical concept of "Doctrine and Vessel" and the idea of the relationship between "the material world and the spiritual world" after the Song and Ming Dynasties, and, on the other, absorbing Kant's philosophical thought of "Dualism of human nature" in German classical philosophy, and Schopenhauer's "Will theory". From these theories evolves Cai Yuanpei's view of identity between the formless and the formal, which is intended to find the transcendent substance that unifies the world. This view testifies to his philosophical speculation and line of thinking in his search for an ideal world. It has a profound influence on him throughout his life.
