在外交斗争中坚持爱国立场的晚清使节杨儒

1900年沙俄在参加八国联军侵入北京的同时,乘机侵占中国东北。清政府派驻俄公使杨儒同沙俄谈判交收东三省问题。在这场尖锐复杂的外交斗争中,杨儒不惧威胁,顶住压力,不受诱骗、收买,努力维护祖国的领土主权,拒绝在沙俄强加的条约上签字,表现了爱国精神和高尚气节。

Yang Ru--A Patriotic Diplomat of late Qing Dynasty

Little more than just a few lines about Yang Ru can be found in any historical records, but Yang Ru was the man sent by the Qing Government in 1900 as minister plenipotentiary to negotiate with Russia over the status of China's Northeast. In defiance of enormous pressure from the Russian side, Yang Ru saw through their tricks and refused to put his signature to a treaty that would have harmed China" s territorial integrity. The present paper is an attempt to reveal the patriotism of Yang Ru as demonstrated during these negotiations.
