American Public Opinion of China:An Analysis of the Changes and Constants

Over the last 60 years,American public opinion of China has generally been negative;however,it has been gradually improving.This kind of improvement is not enough to keep up with the development of the relationship between the two countries.The main reasons for the negative opinion of China are the differences in the two countries’ political systems and American concerns about the "China Threat" However as U.S.-China relations draw closer,the American public’s concern about economic competition has gradually increased relative to its concern about traditional security.The American public also supports the U.S.policy of cooperation with China.Younger generation Americans may also become more confident when they are facing a growing China in the future.
