Apathy is a stable and characteristic state of modern people.Although apathy existed before modern society,but its spread both in breadth and depth mainly occurred in modern society.Apathy discussed in this article is a state of mind that dissolves deep emotions.Social division of labor and the market mechanism provide structural background for such apathy.As social change accelerates,cultural change does not keep up with it,which leads to the loss of value and ourselves.Modernity not only generates further alienation of ourselves from the world and but self-alienation.Regaining the self and keeping the authenticity of emotions may offset apathy.
