Pat Barker, a famous contemporary British writer, is famous for continuous description of hurt in her works. The hurt caused by war in her late works has been widely focused on by readers. In her late works, Barker described the alienation and estrangement due to different experiences in the war, between people living in the back and the soldiers, medical workers, volunteers, and journalists who came back from war. Barker, by describing the psychological estrangement between British soldiers and public, which was caused by the nightmare of the war, reflected that war had brought horrible and miserable psychological hurt to Britain and her people.
