From Historical Poetics to Cultural Poetics:The Cultural Turn of Postmodern History

The legitimacy of linguistic narrative is baffling for modern western intellectual.In postmodern theories of history,theorists of historical poetics,either through Derrida's concept of 'play of signs' or through Foucault's idea of 'discursive formation',can never avoid the problem of representational crisis and theoretical blindness.New historicism advocates the transformation from traditional social history to pan-cultural history,enables historical poetics to break through the textual limits towards cultural studies and finally achieves the symbolic dialogue and interpretive resonance between historical text and past culture.
