The Impact of U. S. 2013 National Defense Authorization Act on the Diaoyu Islands Issue

Treaty of Security and Safeguard between Japan and United States is the core part of the US-Japan alliance. With the repeated revisions of the Treaty, the alliance is consolidated and strengthened. In the recent released U. S. 2013 National Defense Authorization Act, the Diaoyu Islands related clauses showed the attitude of the U.S. towards this issue. This is a legislative expression since the U.S. government declared its position on Diaoyu Islands. The standpoint of the United States on whether the ＂ US-Japan Security Treaty＂ should involve Diaoyu Islands changed from ambiguous to distinct. This is related to the adjustment of the U.S. Asia-Pacific strategy. It is an important part in U. S. Asia-Pacific rebalancing strategy to manufacture controllable crisis using the Diaoyu Islands dispute. However, this is not conducive to regional peace and stability, and will compIicate the Diaoyu Islands dispute. Analysis on these effects helps to explore new ideas and new methods of solving the Diaoyu Islands issue.
