Market socialism is a general collection of all kinds of theories and practice on seeking the combination of market mechanism and public ownership in transforming socialism from an ideal into reality.This article devotes to a detailed introduction of exploration of the combination of market economy and public ownership in the four stages of market socialism,and it expounds theoretically the compatibility of market economy and public ownership.It emphasizes that the market socialists after middle period of 1980s in developed countries have advanced a lot of original ideas and concrete conceptions of the combination of market economy and public ownership,from which China could gain a good deal of enlightenment.Many of them have so unrealistic thoughts that they are difficult to be put into practice.
