Analyzing the European Laws on Bio-safety of Genetically Modified Organisms

The European law on the safety of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) is the strictest one in the world. Due to its strictness, some big exporters of modern biotechnology products, such as the U.S. challenge it. This article introduces the European directives and regulations on GMOs, compared the new directive with the old one. From the compare readers could learn the evolution of the European law in this field. The implementation of these directives and regulations is also presented. The paper also reviews and comments the famous GMOs case between the U.S. and EC. Some opinions of the experts of the panel of the WTO on European GMOs measures could be learned from this case.
