| Abstract: | This paper examines the historical background within which the four most popular stereotypes of African-American women,namely,nannies,whores,welfare mothers,and nasty and unreasonable women,came about.These stereotypes suggest that African-American women were subject to multiple layers of oppression,which have left immense impact on these women.The rise of these stereotypes results from the interaction between social discourse and the oppressed. |
