少数族裔经济在美国学术界长期以来一直受到关注和争论,族裔经济的含义有两个方面:一是"所有权",即族裔群体成员拥有和经营的企业;二是"控制权",即族裔群体控制的雇工渠道或就业网。少数族裔经济最重要的社会学意义在于它为处于弱势的族裔群成员提供了避免失业的机会,享有经济上的相对独立,并为个人乃至整个群体向上社会流动提供了一条可行之道。

The Development of Ethnic Economic Theory in America:Convergence and Dispute

Ethnic economy has long been the focal point of concern and discussion in the American academy. The meaning of ethnic economy is two fold: one refers to"ownership", namely the enterprise owned and managed by members of an ethnic group; the other refers to"control", namely hiring channels and employment networks controlled by an ethnic group. The most significant sociological implication of ethnic economy is that it provides an opportunity for disadvantaged ethnic members to avoid unemployment, enjoys relative economic independence, and paves a possible way of upward mobility for individuals and even the entire group.
