新中国60年，神州大地发生了翻天覆地的巨大变化。简单地说。60年分为前后两个“30年”。前“30年”为后“30年”奠定了根本政治前提和制度基础；后“30年”是前“30年”的历史延续、校正方向和创新性发展。60年的伟大成就创造了一系列重要的历史经验，就是以正确的路线和方针政策创造性地探索和回答了什么是马克思主义、怎样对待马克思主义，什么是社会主义、怎样建设社会主义，建设什么样的党、怎样建设党，实现什么样的发展、怎样发展等重大理论和实际问题。这些历史经验归结到一点，就是把马克思主义同中国具体实际相结合，走自己的路，建设中国特色社会主义。
