The Soleimani killing’s regional implications |
| |
Abstract: | The January 2020 killing of Major-General Qasem Soleimani, one of Iran’s most influential security officials, by a US airstrike brought relations between the countries to a new low. Iran, which engaged in smaller-scale provocations against the US throughout 2019, was likely caught off guard by the attack, but now has the option to retaliate on its own timetable against a wide range of US targets across the Middle East. |
