| Abstract: | Almost all of the Korean business groups are family - controlled chaebols . They have a far - reaching influence on the Korean economy. But some chaebols went bankrupt during the Asian financial crisis in 1997. One of the causes to the failure is excessive diversification. This paper analyzes the basic situation and the driving factors of the diversification of the Korean chaebols, and anatomizes the influence of the diversification behavior on the firm value. |
