身体与政治--关于《危险的愉悦--20世纪上海的娼妓问题与现代性》

本文认为,美国学者贺萧(GailB.Hershatter)的《危险的愉悦——20世纪上海的娼妓问题与现代性》把娼妓问题置于上海现代化的复杂环境中进行研究,将焦点集中在有关妓女的历史记忆和知识形成的研究上,勾勒妓女肖像,并通过妓女这个媒介探索有关性、社会性别、政治权力、文化转型、民族主义、殖民主义、消费主义如何通过异常的女人身体中介获得表现。这正是贺萧著作的独特之处,是她对中国妓女研究的贡献,但同时也具有一定的局限性。

Body and Politics--Looking at Dangerous Delight--Prostitution and Modernity in Shanghai in the 20th Century

This paper holds that the Dangerous Delight-Prostitution and Modernity in Shanghai in the 20th Century by American scholar,Gail B.Hershatter,has located prostitution in the midst of complex discourse of modernization in Shanghai.The book focuses on a study of the historical records and knowledge building of prostitutes.While drawing portraits of prostitutes,the book highlights how these women's bodies embodied reflections of sex,gender,political power,cultural transformation,nationalism,colonialism,and consumerism.This style of writing is uniquely presented by Hershatter and also is her contribution to the study of Chinese prostitution.It,however,also has limitations.
