| Abstract: | This paper aims to make a comparative study on the religious policy and the role of church in the colonial expansion of European powers in Southeast Asia through examining their missionary works, which basically shows that the Catholic churches of Spain, Portugal and France played a critical role in their respective colonial expansion, compared with their counterparts of Dutch and Britain who actually loved saving money better than saving souls. |
