摘    要:Owen Harries, Editor-in-Chief of the American magazine National Interest, once said that Americans, for many years, hold "a pendulum swing of alternating attitudes, now romanticizing now demonizing China". Following the end of the Cold War, there have been drastic changes in the United States and the Western world in their acknowledgement of the historical position of China's national development and the role China plays in the world arena. To study carefully these changes will be of great significance for a correct mastery of the world situation and a better understanding of the policy orientations of the Western world toward China.
