| 摘 要： | 广州地区的自梳习俗在中国是独一无二的。这种习俗在近代形成了一个高潮。其产生的原因是多方面的。自梳是女性追求自由所选择的一种消极方式。它的兴盛与近代的民主平等精神有契合之处。文章采用大量近代的历史资料,揭示了当时自梳女的生活及其社会意义。

| Abstract: | Zishu" in the Guangzhou area was a unique custom in China in the old days, by which girls observing this custom would remain unmarried all their lives and in many cases lived together in common homes ("zishu," literally "combing one's own hair," means" managing affairs on one's own"). This custom, which went in style among young women in modern times, arose out of many reasons. "Zishu" was a passive choice made by women in their quest for freedom. Its stay in vogue coincided with the spirit of democracy and equality in the modern period. This essay draws on a wealth of historical materials to reveal the life of the "zishu" girls and the social significance of the celibetarian practice at the time. |
