Belgium stays ‘purple’: the 2003 federal election

The article seeks to explore the factors and their interaction which have determined the level of and fluctuations in Union membership in France. These factors are of both a general nature (economic crisis, unemployment, lack of worker combativity, the prevailing political situation) and internal factors which include the state of plant‐level unionism, organisational factors and the unity of the movement.
