缅甸对印度人和孟加拉人的政策

Myanmar Indian and Bengalis Policy

The Indian are more socially unacceptable to Myanmar than other foreigners due to racial difference, religious conflict, and the Indian uneasy adoption of Myanmar language, dress and local customs. Thus the Burmese call them Kalas. It is interesting to note that the Burmese have stronger cultural ties with India, especially in religion owing to the communication factor in the early days of Burma's history. During the colonial period, the role of the Indian is very notable. They diversified into agricultural, manufacturing and service sectors although they were in second place, following the European. Since 1962, it seems that the political, economic and social autonomy of the Indian has declined significantly. However, since September of 1988, when the present military regime took power, the status of the Indian has become better.
