The Korean Peninsula after the Tian An Incident
Authors:Zhu Feng
Abstract:In response to the Tian An ship incident and the shelling of Yin Ping Island, the U.S.,Japan and S. Korea created a mechanism to coordinate their policies towards N. Korea within the framework of their military alliances. They believe the mechanism is more important than the Six-Party Talks. While talks continue to be delayed, tensions on the Peninsula have no chance of being ameliorated and may even intensify. This clearly does not help to solve the issue nor reopen the denuclearization process.
