Market Opportunities of China's Enterprises under Clean Development Mechanism

Traditional views hold that lowering carbon emission will raise production cost and therefore decrease corporate competitiveness.In this paper,we argue that using the Clean Development Mechanism under Kyoto Protocol,companies can turn carbon reduction into an opportunity of making profits and exploring new market opportunities.First,global carbon market is developing rapidly.Companies in developing countries have a lower carbon reduction cost than those in developed countries and therefore can make profits through carbon trade.Second,China plays a significant role in global carbon reduction.Using this position,financial institutions should explore how to participate in global carbon financial market and seek profit opportunities.
