Reinterpretations of the Early Functional Psychology

Ward was the first British functional psychologist. He insisted on activity and unity of mind, emphasized act and function of mind, established the orientation of functionism in the early British psychology. The conative theory of mind and the hormic or purposive psychology, pro- posed respectively by Stout and McDougall, were the model of functonal psychology. The early British functional psychology got certain theoretical achievements, had some thinking limits,and made important influence on the history of psychology.
