The Sui Dynasty poetry is a significant link from the Southern and Northern Dynasties to the Tang Dynasty manifested in the overall integration of southern and northern styles of Chinese poetry.The emerging poets from the north during the early Sui Dynasty brought the northern style for the first time into a dominant position since the Southern and Northern Dynasties.What makes it more remarkable is the emergence of new characteristics,the conciliation of the southern refinement and mellifluence in the northern vigor and massiness.The resurrection of the southern style during the late Sui Dynasty when numerous poets streamlined to the northern land was,however,not a simple renewal,but a southern style of frivolity and elegance tinged with the northern solidity.Consequently,the interaction between the northerners taking on southern tints and the southerners taking over northern tones became the driving force behind the overall integration of southern and northern styles during this period.
