Abstract: | Globalization will bring drastic changes to the world economy, and the poorer developing economies, such as those in sub‐Saharan Africa, could be left behind and become marginalized, says Makoto Taniguchi, formerly deputy secretary‐general of the OECD and now at Waseda University. Taniguchi sees the “Age of Globalization” as a catch‐up process for emerging developing economies and suggests the developed nations should put in place a new development strategy to assist them. This paper was given at a conference on “Challenges of Globalization” organized by the Institute for International Policy Studies and held in Tokyo in December 1997. |
