On Anti-War Thought in Toyoko Yamasaki Novel

A large majority of works by Japanese novelist Toyoko Yamasaki is connected to anti-war thought. The contents of her works are not only on anti-war and peace-loving, but also about the reflections over Japanese invasion to other countries. Her works mined the anxiety and worry of Japanese people during war at a deep level, discussed the desire of＂returning＂ in the heart of characters, so as to awaken the common understanding of everyone on brutality of wars. This article is focused on Toyoko＇s War Trilogy. It studies her anti-war thought through text analysis and analyzes the subject of＂returning＂ and the manifestation of ＂sorrow＂. It further discusses over the existence of ＂anti-war literature＂ in Japan, clarifies the truth and the literary definitions, and thus urges a deep reflection over the history in Japanese society.
