Abstract:Mechanical asphyxia is one of the most common causes of death in forensic cases. How to quickly and accurately determine whether the death is caused by asphyxiation and what causes it is an important factor to judge the nature of the case and guide the direction of the case investigation.In the process of forensic examination, the diagnosis of mechanical asphyxia requires the combination of body surface signs, internal signs of the corpse, histopathological examination and other aspects. PMCT has great advantages in fracture detection, foreign body detection and gas detection, and has been routinely used in many countries and regions.This paper reviews the research results of hyoid bone fracture, thyroid cartilage fracture, intervertebral disc vacuum phenomenon in mechanical asphyxia cases using PMCT in recent years. the application value and potential of PMCT in diagnosis of mechanical asphyxia are discussed, and the necessity and prospect of the development of PMCT in China are prospected.
