文艺研究可以从文艺学之外寻求研究的方法和思路。这是由于:第一,文艺研究视角的多方面性,它们分属不同学科;第二,文艺研究视角导引出具体观点,这些观点是所由依托的学科预设的;第三,从文艺研究的变化来看,它更多地是受哲学和社会思潮的影响;第四,从文艺研究的内容来看,一些根本性的问题并不是文艺自身的问题,但文艺研究又不能够回避这些问题。对文艺研究的这一认识,有助于更好地把握该学科的特点。
