Australian government was one of the western countries which actively supported America's military actions during Vietnam War.There always exists a controversy over the reasons why Australia involved itself in Vietnam War.The paper contributes its involvement to the following reasons:the special political environment in Australia at the time;the national security demand based upon Forward Defense Strategy;the lack of needed information and the special international background,etc.All these above-mentioned factors impelled Australia to send military advisers and finally deployed a relatively big army to assist America's fighting in the area of Indo-China.The defeat in Vietnam War forced Australia to rethink about its Asian policies,and gradually strengthened economic,political and cultural ties with Asian countries.
