TRAINING AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT: NATIONAL VERSUS LOCAL PERSPECTIVES

Institution:Andrew McArthur is a Research Fellow at Glasgow University. He has carried out a range of research and consultancy projects concerned with policy responses to unemployment and in particular local employment and training initiatives. He is closely involved in the development of community enterprise and is currently engaged in a study assessing the contributions such forms of unconventional economic activity might make to the labour market problems of peripheral public sector housing estates.;Alan McGregor is Director of the Training and Employment Research Unit at Glasgow University and has carried out a range of research studies in the manpower, training and urban/regional areas. Recent studies have included analyses of manpower problems and provision on Clydeside and Merseyside, and the effectiveness of employment and training subsidies. He also has extensive advisory and consultancy experience in the manpower field with national, regional and local government bodies.
