《流浪地球》与科幻爱国主义反思

The Wandering Earth and Reflecting on Science Fiction Patriotism

The Wandering Earth triggered the discussion of the beginning of the era of Chinese science fiction movies. There is a special cultural value in this discussion, in which the promotion of the Chinese value is possible in science fiction movies. Science fiction movies are essentially a manifestation of the cultural industry, so its value must be attached to the consumption of the cultural industry, by means of establishing a cultural communication with economic effects, and skillfully packing the mainstream ideology in the movies. The Chinese position in The Wandering Earth reflects a special patriotism, but from the perspective of the cultural industry, this sci-fi patriotism is obviously confined to the domestic cultural market. Once entering the international market, this strong “China” color will weaken its influence, which is not really a kind of patriotism. The sci-fi patriotism indeed should consider both domestic and international cultural markets, expand the international cultural market share with more appropriate ways to express the Chinese culture and mainstream ideology. To conclude, real science fiction patriotism can only be conveyed with an international vision.
