再议英国在新马合并与分离中的态度和作用

马来西亚计划公布之初,英国态度犹豫不决,更倾向于支持新马合并。由于马来亚联合邦不肯做任何让步,英国遂改变立场,转而支持马来西亚计划。马来西亚成立后,英国在军事、外交及经济方面给予了很大的帮助。在行动党与联盟出现矛盾时,英国从中斡旋,在协调新马关系方面起到了一定作用。但由于各种原因,英国并没有能够阻止新马分家。

The Attitude and Role of UK in the Establishment and Separation of Malaysia

At the beginning of the announcement of the plan,the British hesitated and was more inclined to support the merger of Singapore and Malaya.As Kuala Lumpur was reluctant to make any concessions,the British then changed its position and instead supported Malaysia plan.After the set up of Malaysia,the British had given great help in military,diplomatic and economic aspects.When conflicts appeared between People’s Action Party and the Union,the British mediated and played a role in the coordination of relations of them.However,for various reasons,Britain was not able to prevent the separation of Singapore and Malaysia.
