A Comparative Study of I Ching (the Book of Changes) and Jung:Psychological Efforts Bridging the Occidental and the Oriental Cultures

Tracing Jung's dialogue with the I Ching,exploring Jung's way to the East,this paper highlights Jung's contributions to bridging the Oriental and Occidental psyches,to exploring a system that may contain mental phenomenon regardless of cultural borders.The impact of the I Ching on Jung is discussed in terms of synchronicity as supported by Jung's experiences with I Ching,Yin and Yang as a kind of archetypes.Both are fundamental constructs representing Jung's efforts in bridging the East and the West.On the other hand,a review on Jung's reservations and qualifications of the East is made,indicating his rational stand and his achievements as well as blind spots.Jung's work has a great significance on bridging the Occidental and the Oriental cultures.
