Dianbai:A Harmonious County on the South China Sea
摘    要:DIANBAI County in Guangdong Province first earned nationwide fame for its succulent litchis. Intending to impress his beautiful concubine Yang Yuhuan, Tang Dynasty emperor Xuanzong ordered a courier to bring back bunches of Dianbai litchis to the then Chinese capital Chang'an (today's Xi'an). Dianbai County is in the southwest part of Guangdong Province, and looks out over the South China Sea. It occupies 1,840 sq km of land, and has a sea territory of 7,500 sq km. Its population of 1,262,000 lives in 17 towns and 292 administrative villages. When the winter cold freezes northern China, picturesque Dianbai still buzzes with life. The county seat is Shuidong Town. Its convenient new infrastructure and old-style buildings instill in the town a sense of the modern as well as the ancient. Dianbai also boasts abundant - and some unique - resources. Its annual fruit output ranks among the top 100 counties in China. Apart from litchis, its other well-known products include Dianbai peanut oil, Shuidong mustard and Dianbai sweet taro. It has several natural harbors along its 200 kilometers of coastline, which teem with lobsters, prawns, crabs, sleeve fish, groupers, Yenus fish, sea cucumbers, abalone and other delicacies from the sea. Its aquatic product output ranks seventh out of all Chinese counties.
