| 摘 要： | 霍桑小说中两个主题——罪与同情,已越来越引起人们的关注。罪是违反道德规范及时个人心灵神圣性之轻视;同情是与他人感同身受的能力,以及出于怜悯而分担他人痛苦之意愿。表面上看,罪与同情似乎不相关,但霍桑作品中所关注的却恰恰是罪与同情闯紧密又复杂的关联。

| Abstract: | Sin and sympathy, the two major themes in Hawthorne＇s novels, are getting more and more concern from readers. Sin can be regarded as the violation of morality and disrespect for the sanctity of human soul, while sympathy is the ability to feel others＇ feelings and the willingness toshare their burdens out of mercy. Although superficially sin seems to be irrelevant to sym- pathy, in Hawthorne＇s novels, what is really concerned is the close and complicated relationship between the two items. |
