Institution: | Susan Popkin, Ph.D., is a Senior Research Associate in the Metropolitan Housing and Communities Policy Center of the Urban Institute. Dr. Popkin is a nationally recognized expert on public and assisted housing and directs a program of research on the impact of public housing transformation on original residents. Her work touches on a wide range of issues related to housing and neighborhood effects on outcomes for families, including overall well-being;economic self-sufficiency;material hardship;and physical and mental health, social integration, and educational outcomes for children. Dr. Popkin is the lead author of The Hidden War: Crime and the Tragedy of Public Housing in Chicago. |
