郑和下西洋与中国东南亚的友好交往

Zheng He's Expeditions and the Friendly Intercourse between China and Southeast Asia

At the beginning of the Ming Dynasty, in order to develop friendly relationship with Southeast Asian countries, the Chinese government followed a series of peaceful foreign policies, which included Zheng He's expeditions covering all over Southeast Asia. As a pacific envoy, Zheng He, during his expeditions, not only founded the state of Malacca, and therefore put an end to the bullying of a strong country (Thailand) towards a weak one (Malacca), but also wiped out the pirates from Palembang, thus ensuring a smooth channel. Meanwhile, he put down a rebellion in favor of the king to maintain the order in Sumatra. Zheng He and his retinue's peaceful diplomatic activities have had a great influence on the Southeast Asian countries. So far, the legends on them are still spread throughout those countries. These facts show that Zheng He, being a pacific envoy, did make contributions to the development of the friendly intercourse between China and Southeast Asia.
