Doubt about the Hypothesis that the Falling Tone in Chinese Originates from the End "-s"

Abstract:Materials in Tibetan and materials in the comparison between Chinese and Tibetan show that, in terms of tone types, the paronyms in Chinese of the Tibetan words ending with"-s" can be pronounced either in falling tone, the fourth tone in the Chinese language, or in the other tones. In the paronyms of the two languages, the Tibetan words relevant to the Chinese falling tone may be either words ending with "-s" or words not ending with "-s". The Chinese falling tone does not completely correspond to the Tibetan end "-s". In terms of tone styles, the end"-s" influences the tone to create a falling tone, and so does the other ends. The end"-s" does not correspond completely to falling tone. Hence, the hypothesis that the falling tone in Chinese originates from the end"-s" is doubted.
