Abstract:In Red Thread by Australian writer Nicholas Jose, the heroine Rue may be identified as a woman with hybridity. Although she is a native Australian, she loves Chinese traditions sincerely. Inspired by reincarnation in Buddhism, she, when meeting Shen Fuling, is recognized as the incarnation of Yun in Six Chapters of a Floating Life by Shen Fu. In this paper, the author will analyze the survival condition of Rue in terms of the definition of hybridity, the feature of hybridity, and the enlightenment of Chinese traditions to the Occidental culture. The equality between Sino - Australian cultures has been shown in Rue, so there is no domination of any kind of culture.
