New Trends of Trade- Environmental Issues in the Framework of WTO

The coordination of environmental protection and trade liberalization is a new issue in the multilateral trade system. GATT's rules and dispute settlement practices tend to evade or take a discreet attitude toward these issues. After the establishment of WTO, the value orientation of the rules of this organization and the practices of its DSB appear to lean towards environmental protection. Both the Doha Ministerial Conference and the Cancun Ministerial Conference concur that the multilateral trade system yields to environmental issues. This tendency bodes a more hostile environmental challenge that the trade security of developing countries will meet in the future as part of a multilateral trade system.
