功利主义下的社会自由与边界——《论自由》阅读札记

现代以来,政治哲学的主题逐渐转变为对社会与公共政策的探讨。密尔的功利主义自由观是崇尚社会自由的典型代表,他越过政治统治的桎梏,直指社会暴虐,呼吁对异端者的容忍。另外,密尔对自由主义思想的贡献还在于定义了自由的边界。虽然学界对密尔自由边界的定义还众说纷纭,但无论是过去还是现在,密尔功利主义的自由观对自由主义思想的发展都具有重大的影响。

Social Freedom and Its Boundary Influenced by Utilitarianism

Since modern times, the subject of political philosophy has transformed into explorations on the society and public policies. Mill＇s view on Utilitarian freedom typically represents the admiration of social freedom. Aiming at social violence, Mill broke the limit from political ruling and called on tolerance to heretics. Further more, Mill made contributions to Liberalism by defining the boundary of freedom.Though scholars have various opinions to Mill＇s definition, whether in the past or now, Mill＇s view on Utilitarian freedom has a significant influence on the development of Liberalism.
