Institution:John Firman is the Director of the Research Center for The International Association of Chiefs of Police. The IACP is the world's oldest and largest professional police organization with 20,000 members in 105 countries. Mr. Firman oversees major policy and research initiatives of the IACP on all aspects of policing, and he is responsible for directing IACP's annual national policy summits on contemporary crime and justice issues in America. Prior to joining the IACP, Mr. Firman served as an appointee of the Governor of Illinois as Associate Director of the Illinois Criminal Justice Authority. He is a recipient of the United States Department of Justice J. Paul Sylvester Award;for outstanding accomplishment in the field of criminal justice research. He is a native of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, receiving his undergraduate degree from La Salle University and his graduate degree from Temple University. Mr. Firman has devoted his 33-year professional career to improving the quality of law enforcement and criminal justice in the United States.
